How to Clean and Store Your SILEXPAN® Liquid Silicone Toys

A quality material only keeps its properties — softness, shape memory, non-porous surface — if it's cared for properly. The good news: SILEXPAN® liquid silicone is one of the easiest surfaces to keep in perfect condition, as long as you follow a few simple steps.

Hygiene

Why cleaning matters more than you'd think

Being a non-porous material, SILEXPAN® doesn't absorb fluids or harbor bacteria on its surface the way lower-quality porous materials can. That makes it far more hygienic — but "non-porous" doesn't mean "no cleaning required." Every use leaves residue on the surface that should be removed before storing the product.

Routine

Step by step

  1. Rinse with warm water immediately after each use.
  2. Use a fragrance-free, alcohol-free neutral soap, applied with clean hands — no need to scrub hard, the non-porous surface releases dirt easily.
  3. Rinse thoroughly until no soap residue remains.
  4. Air-dry or dry with a clean towel before storing. Storing the product while damp is the most common cause of odor over time.

Tip: if you're going to use lubricant before cleaning, first check which ones are compatible with SILEXPAN® in our lubricant compatibility guide — some can damage the surface with repeated use.

Precautions

What to avoid

  • High-proof alcohol or solvents: can damage the surface over time.
  • Dishwasher or washing machine: never. Cleaning is always done by hand.
  • Direct contact with other silicone products: silicone can react with silicone (for example, certain lubricants or covers). Store each product separately, in its own bag or pouch.
Storage

How to store it

A breathable fabric drawer or bag, away from direct sunlight and heat sources, is enough. It doesn't need refrigeration to stay in good condition — the cold of the fridge is only for when you want to firm up the material before use.

Maintenance

How often to check it

Before each use, it's good practice to visually check the surface. A quality material like SILEXPAN®, well cared for, keeps its feel and appearance for years. For general hygiene best practices, this Healthline guide to cleaning intimate toys is a good complement.
