Choosing the right lubricant isn't a minor detail: the wrong combination can degrade a silicone product's surface over time. Here's the quick guide to keep your SILEXPAN® in the best condition.
The general rule
With 100% silicone products, the classic recommendation is to avoid silicone-based lubricants, because both materials can react with each other and damage the surface. SILEXPAN® is formulated to minimize this risk, but we still recommend the safer option as a general rule.
Quick rule: water is compatible with everything, silicone only with caution, oil never with a latex condom.
What to use and what to avoid
Water-based
The safest, most versatile option. Compatible with SILEXPAN® and with most condoms.
Aloe vera-based
Free of irritating additives: a good alternative if you're looking for something more natural.
Silicone-based
Higher risk of damaging the surface with repeated use.
Oil-based
Petroleum jelly, cooking oils, or undiluted essential oils leave a greasy residue and aren't compatible with latex condoms.
How to do a quick patch test
If you're unsure about a new lubricant, apply a small amount to a discreet area of the product, wait a few minutes, and check that the surface keeps its usual feel before using it normally.
Cleaning after using lubricant
